Beating Time = Beating Covid
As I said earlier on my site, I credit a 30 pound turkey for saving my life. It was late Fall 2019 when the realization that I was on a steep decline with 90 pounds of frozen turkeys around my waist, a climbing A1-C number leading to Type II Diabetes, accompanied by the wheezing symphony of asthma and the silence high blood pressure. I made good progress during the Fall and Winter holidays of 2019. By then, I lost over 25 pounds. I was proud of my strict adherence to a very low carb, no sugar and good fats diet. There was no immediate deadline to my regimen. I had an important trip scheduled for April 2020 and that was still four months away. Then COVID-19 hit us all.
All of a sudden my wellness journey took on grave importance. I was in the viruses’ crosshairs. Ironically, I never felt better in decades! My quest to beat time and acquire some bonus years had been a goal in my later life for some time but I always had ample excuses to delay self-intervention. Then all the excuses vanished and my study of wellness, longevity and putting what I was learning to practice was and is exhilarating.
All the action of life is intracellular. Mitochondria and organelles within our cells generate the energy and defenses against diseases and give us a decent lifespan. After reading the books I am recommending you read as well, I realize that our bodies are a voluntary association of bacteria, viruses and microorganisms that decided they had a better chance to survive and thrive together than drifting alone on earth! They know what they are doing and strange to say we do not!
I will be detailing all of this on my blog posts for a very long time to come. I will cover a quiver of actions we can take to stay healthy and acquire bonus years to do as much good as we can and eventually leave smiling. But for now read these rather recent books on the subject:
- Dave Aspray, Super Human: The Bulletproof Plan to Age Backward and Maybe Even Live for Ever
- Sayer Ji, Regenerate : Unlocking Your Body’s Radical Resilience Through The New Biology
- Lee Know, Mitochondria and the Future of Medicine : The Key to Understanding Disease, Chronic Illness, Aging and Life Itself
- David A. Sinclair, Lifespan: Why We Age and Why We Don’t Have To
One Caution: These books are and have to be about biological science. However, as you endure through them, you will be amazed about much you will understand and appreciate the wonder and power of it all.
I am anxious to hear from you. So please let me know what you think about these sources and sign up to be notified about Beating Time’s virtual community!
